Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

This Guggenheim Museum Abu Dhabi is a world-class museum designed by Gehry Partners, the museum will be located in the cultural district of Saadiyat Island on an engineered peninsula. The site has an area of approximately 250,000 sq.m and will be a part of a much larger development that includes the Louvre designed by Jean Nouvel among other cultural venues. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi was commissioned by TDIC Tourism Development & Investment Company, The new museum will include gallery spaces for contemporary and Islamic art. The program consists of galleries, auditorium, garden plazas, service, administration, security, large atrium/lobby, restaurant, and logistical programs for maintaining the museum. Special gallery spaces are an integral part of the museums’ exhibitions, these large galleries will house contemporary installations and smaller galleries will house much smaller works of art.

My Role

My role and responsibilities on this project included working with the core design team on physical design models, 3D design models using Digital Project, and design documentation. My primary focus was to help produce detailed parametric 3D models for various aspects of the design and create detailed drawings to capture the different building systems in detail.

Process

The design of the Guggenheim took place primarily through physical models and design modeling in Digital Project. I had the opportunity to work on several aspects of the Museum. Using Digital Project as the primary modeling environment to establish design geometries, model elements, and detailed components. The model was organized and structured by disciplines, building zones, products, elements, and systems. The outcome of this effort was a highly detailed and coordinated central master model that described the Guggenheim Museum in its entirety and was an integral part of the documentation set.
