ASU Architecture Masters Studio

The field of Space Architecture is rapidly emerging as a critical area of study with significant implications for the future of human space exploration. It is an innovative engine driving exploration into the frontiers of new technologies and a source of inspiration for solving societal challenges. Addressing the wide-ranging technology gaps required to make humanity spacefaring and to harness the potential of space resources will be a persistent challenge for decades to come. This challenge has motivated us to envision a cutting-edge facility where research and development on space exploration and development can take place. Our studio was dedicated to fostering foundational knowledge and competencies in Space Architecture by exploring the various disciplines involved in human space exploration technologies. The initial focus was to explore concepts for habitat architecture, considering the disciplines, principles, technologies, and functions that drive Space Architecture. The studio then focused entirely on envisioning a Space Architecture Research and Development Center, where a diverse range of space technology activities could take place. The approach emphasized resiliency, self-sufficiency, and multi-disciplinary integration to enable this center to effectively address the challenges posed by developing new space exploration technologies.
